Due to human nature, we draw conclusions only when life gives us a lesson since the experience of others is not so effective and powerful. Therefore, when analyzing and sorting out common problems we face, we may trace a parallel with well-known book characters or real historical figures. Moreover, we often compare our situations with famous storylines like White Fang’s loyalty, the analytic skills of Sherlock Holmes, and the love of Romeo and Juliet.

So, when speaking about love, no person may be unfamiliar with the literary heritage of William Shakespeare and his play Romeo and Juliet. Yes, that’s right, tragedy, but not a romantic story. So, what lessons can we learn from tragic love stories?

Don’t Trust Love at First Sight

At first, it may seem that two pure teenagers are immersed in such a wonderful feeling of mutual love that will last forever. But we should not forget that before meeting Juliet and realizing that she is his destiny, Romeo is like a representative of a masculine teenager who, under the influence of hormones and craving for feminine attention, was longing for Rosalind.

So, when Romeo meets Juliet, she becomes his object of adoration, almost immediately reciprocating his feelings. Such mutual fondness makes us believe there is a place for love at first sight. However, due to the tragic outcomes and death of the lovers, we will never know how long and strong their feelings could be since we know quite well how teenagers may overestimate their first romantic feelings.

Family Issues Are Tough

All of us can share life stories when parents do not approve of their children’s choices concerning their partners. The same situation happened to the star crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet. Two feuding families, Montagues and Capulets, could not accept Romeo and Juliet’s relationship and did everything to separate them.

All the cross families’ feuds did not lead to the desired results. Instead, it caused Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. Perhaps, it is the hardest lesson for parents to lose the dearest people because of their own ambitions and unwillingness to compromise. Unfortunately, only irreparable loss could give a life lesson to parents. No wonder William Shakespeare ended his tragedy with the statement that there is no sadder story in the world than the story of Romeo and Juliet.

Lack of Communication Leads to Misunderstandings

It is hard to disagree that communication is the key to long-lasting and strong relations. William Shakespeare’s Romeo died drinking poison after he learned that Juliet had died. But she was sleeping, and when she woke up, she realized that her beloved Romeo died and killed herself. So, if you dig deeper into the essence of the death of star crossed lovers, it becomes clear that the reason for their tragic love is a misunderstanding.

So, when analyzing the life lesson of their tragic relations, we can trace two parallels of misunderstanding that resulted in the death of two teenagers who did not care about the feud between their families and purely loved each other.

First, miscommunication issues may be followed between parents and their children. For example, Juliet’s father did not want to listen to any relations with Romeo and even insisted on her marriage to Paris. But she did not wish to betray Romeo, and drinking the potion made everyone believe Juliet died, but she was just sleeping. So, because she could not find a common language with her parents, she prefers death to living with someone she has no feelings for.

The same happens with Romeo. Instead of talking to their son, his parents do everything to separate star crossed lovers. But when everything resulted in their son’s death, Romeo’s mom died too because of longing for their son. So, they preferred their own principles and long-lasting unclear feud for the life and happiness of their son.

We may follow another lack of communication line between lovers. After Romeo meets Juliet at the ball, they are inseparable. But when their close family finds out about their relations, they do everything to make them be apart. After Priest Lorenzo marries the couple secretly in the garden, it may seem they will stay together forever. But when Romeo’s friend wants to kill Romeo because of quarrels and unwillingness to talk but kills Mercutio and dies, Romeo is sent away from Verona. Thus, the lovers lose connection, and nobody explains to Romeo that Juliet is just sleeping, so he drinks poison to die. And Juliet kills herself because she cannot stay alone. So, the story could have a happy ending if people talked before acting.

Truth Is a Foundation of Relationship

Remember that all secrets are revealed early or late. In the play, Romeo and Juliet start their relationship with lies and secrets. The lie is traceable all over the play. And it raises many conflicts like Tibalt’s desire to kill Romeo, the secret marriage in the garden that parents did not approve of, and the meeting of lovers that also was covered with secrets.

So, the lack of truth in the relationships between Romeo and Juliet teach us that lies may go too far and have undesirable consequences. So, if they had told everyone about their feelings and tried to find a solution and reason for the conflict between their families that was inherited from generation to generation, everything could happen other than Romeo and Juliet’s deaths.

When You Are in Love, You Are Almost Blind

It is well known that love is blind. Having romantic feelings, we reject and notice our beloved’s faults, lies, or unacceptable behavior. However, the life lessons that may be taken from William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet relations are hidden in the age of star crossed lovers. Exaggeration of feeling is common for teenagers, and since Juliet was just 13 years old and Romeo almost 17, it is clear why they swore in lifelong love and were ready to die.

The life lesson of this tragic love story is that we should have a cold mind and not regret tragic ends like the series of deaths in the play.

We Become Better Because of Love

William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Julieth’s relations give us numerous positive and negative lessons. So, when being in love, people often observe the world through pink glasses. In the play, we may follow similar situations when teenagers adore each other and refuse to listen to anybody else.

At the same time, we may watch behavior changes in Juliet. At 13, she demonstrates feelings, fidelity to Romeo, and self-confidence as a real woman. When Romeo dies, Julieth shows strong willpower and invisibility, making her kill herself. In the play, Romeo also seems to be older than 17 since he is ready to fight for his pure feelings to the end. Although such strong traits of character lead to death, we may get a life lesson that only real love makes us keep promises and not betray.

Love Doesn’t Mean Happiness

Perhaps, love may be a part of word combinations with opposite meanings. As a rule, we associate love with happiness and euphoria. But we should not forget about forbidden love or non-mutual love. Having numerous pitfalls and a lack of understanding and support from family and friends, the love of Romeo and Juliet leads to tragic deaths. So, logically, the question arises about the essence of love. Losing the sense of life and being in love, Juliet stabs herself in the heart. The action that is caused by love leads to self-killing. So, concluding from the tragic story of Romeo and Juliet, an association between love and happiness is under doubt.

In the End, Love Is Still the Strongest Feeling

Although the story of Romeo and Juliet ends tragically, it always makes us believe in true love. As the master of writing, William Shakespeare demonstrated the real feelings of star crossed lovers checked by death. Romeo thinks that Juliet died, and his reaction is to die for the sake of their love. But what does Juliet do when she sees Romeo die? She kills herself. So, demonstrating her passion and inability to live without her son, Romeo’s mother dies too.

So, the life lesson of these numerous tragic events is that life is senseless without love since it is the strongest feeling.
